With no previous experience of taiko necessary\, these days are open to enthusiastic adults of all ages. Our day retreats begin with gentle stretches followed by a day of taiko drumming. DESCRIPTION:Day Long Adult Beginners Workshop at the Flavel\, Dartmouth\nSaturday 18th March\, 10am – 4pm \nThis day long workshop for adult beginners covers the background and history of taiko drumming\, a chance to get to grips with the basics & fundamentals\, some fun drills and then the day culminates in participants learning a simple taiko piece to play altogether. Taiko drumming is a fabulous activity and accessible to all\, no previous experience needed. \nWhilst not marketed as therapeutic there are many benefits to taiko. Due to its physicality it’s great to get the body moving but it’s also good ‘brain gym’. The combination of it being a physical & mental activity means there’s no room for anything else so whatever people may be going through it provides a good escape. What’s more it’s very rare for people to have played taiko before so there’s a great sense of achievement to try something new and be able to play something altogether. \nTaiko South West are excited to be offering a day long taiko drumming workshop at The Flavel in Dartmouth. All equipment will be provided so all you have to do is (book a place!) and  turn up on the day ready to have a great time! Places are £65.00 per person and must be booked in advance directly through The Flavel here. Lunch is not provided.

SUMMARY:CPD Taiko Drumming Session for School Staff
DESCRIPTION:Devon & Torbay Music Education Hubs\, in partnership with Taiko South West\, are running a FREE twilight CPD session focussed on taiko drumming. Taiko is a performing art originating from Japan involving big drums and choreography. It’s very visual and a lot of fun\, if you’ve not seen it before please check out this video of Tano Taiko (Taiko South West’s main performing group) https://vimeo.com/598854061. \nThis practical session is aimed at classroom teachers\, teaching assistants and other school staff (both specialist and non-specialist) involved in music education delivery. \nLucy Thomas\, instructor at Taiko South West\, will be running the session on behalf of the Hub and will cover: \n\nA brief overview of the history and background of taiko drumming\nSome warm up exercises that require no equipment\nSome fun introductory taiko drumming drills\nA simple taiko motif which all participants will be able to play together by the end of the session.\n\nJoin us for this fun\, informative and inspiring CPD opportunity! This is a practical session with all instruments and resources provided. Taiko South West will be using pipe drums. Pipe drum sets can be rented per term from Devon & Torbay Music Education Hub should you wish to do taiko drumming in your school. \nThis workshop will take place from 4-5.30pm on Thursday 23rd March 2023 and will be hosted by Teignmouth Community School.
