Exeter Reclaim the Night Taiko Drumming Workshop
27 November 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Exeter Reclaim the NIght Taiko Drumming Workshop
Sunday 27th November, 10am – 12pm
Newtown Community Centre, Exeter
As part of 16 Days of Action, Devon Rape Crisis and Sexual Abuse Services (DRCSAS) are hosting a free Taiko Drumming workshop. The session will give you a brief overview of taiko drumming and it’s background, the basics and fundamentals, then everyone will learn a short melody pattern which they will play together by the end of the workshop.
The emphasis for workshops like these (apart from introducing people to taiko) is on people having fun and experiencing something new together in a group. Ultimately, it’s about the experience, and not getting everything 100% right. Taiko is brilliant because it’s physical, but it also takes a certain amount of mental focus, so there’s not much room for anything else! During workshops people discover they get a break from whatever may be causing stress in their everyday lives.
There will also be the opportunity to have a chat with members of the DRCSAS team, get support information and have a cuppa.
This workshop is open to everyone (children 11+ and accompanied by an adult).
16 Days of Action is an annual international campaign that starts on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. It aims to raise awareness and call for changes at local, national and international level to end violence against women and girls.
